Moving Poems: prose poems, live action video.

Suburban English Magick is a prose poem about contemporary folklore, ritual and place, relating to North Bedfordshire, England. The video is an edited recording of a durational, improvised live painting, responding to the prose poem and audio installation comprised of found sound and recordings made in relevant locations.

Summon the Bishops is a prose poem about collecting as a trauma response. It is an exploration of, ritual and place, relating to North Bedfordshire, England. The video is an evocation of dream spaces and collected found artefacts. The title of the piece directly refers to the Panacea Society, a millenarium religious group following the teachings of Devonshire prophetess, Joanna Southcott.

Animations: stop motion animations.

The Visitors - stop motion animation relating to a short story (unpublished) about visiting night people. The whole lot made by me (pencil, chalk, ink, iPhone) apart from individual FLO and mechanical sounds by gis_sweden and univ_lyon3 on Free Sound, which I chopped up and messed about with in Audacity.

The Sliding Tower: one of the dreamscapes I often return to. At the top of the concrete structure is a sunken casket with a domed glass windshield. It’s a Time Machine that takes its power from how hard the passenger believes in it. So it only works if you can suspend your disbelief and absolutely know that you will travel. Just as you start to think it’s never going to work, you’re travelling through time.

Sound by me made from LFO wobbles by Gis Sweden and Marianna de Oliveira.

The Unlimited Dream Company: …the blood flowed into her through the hoses of my wrists…her warm fingers squeezed my elbow.”

I’ve taken a tiny bit of a liberty with the following-on of a sentence, but I think that’s probably okay. This animation, inspired by a moment in JG Ballard’s Unlimited Dream Company, where Blake yields to showing kindness in an otherwise diabolical tour de force of selfish perversity (also totally enjoyable despite being very wicked).

Audiovisual Experiments: Double exposure/cross processed style videos, audio beds made with found sounds and borrowed bits from Free Sound, mashed up in Audacity.
